On this episode of Radio 43, the podcast from HOPE not Hate, we look into the neo-Nazi group White Vanguard, which has suffered a major split. A series of calamitous errors has cost the group half its membership, forced a change in leadership and left its future uncertain.
Since launching last March, White Vanguard has distinguished itself through its confrontational approach. Aiming to usher in a “National Socialist” revolution, the group’s 20 to 30 core activists drilled martial arts, hijacked public protests and intimidated local politicians while clad in black uniforms and balaclavas.
However, momentum collapsed last December when internal tensions boiled over into a mass walkout, triggered by the arrest of co-leader Kai Cunningham. The handling of the arrest - as well as disdain for the other co-leader, Harrison Leworthy - has left the organisation half the size and even without control of its own website.
