This winning yoga studio balances serenity and energy to foster escapism

The One Third Yoga Art Center in Hangzhou, China, has been recognized as the FRAME Awards 2022 Health Club of the Year because it meets the post-pandemic challenge of being simultaneously energizing and relaxing.
Designed by Boundary Space Design, the generous 750-sq-m centre serves as a space where users can escape from the bustling urban life around them. The original space was reorganized to add exterior terraces, ensuring the connection between nature and the yoga practice and meditation rooms. This fluidity is maintained throughout the building’s three levels, giving the opportunity to practice yoga or visit the bar outdoors. A calming colour palette of soft pinks, greys and earth tones are used. On the top floor, a more intense red tone covers the walls for more dynamic practices. The designer drew on the space’s unique original layout to pave the way for endless self-discovery and introspection.
