Speaking exclusively, the Australian midfielder said the intensity, quality and expectations in the HIL mirror those of international tournaments, making it an ideal proving ground for World Cup aspirants. Liam was picked for a record ₹42 lakh at the mini-auction, a move that surprised him as he returns from a major hamstring injury.

Thanking the Kalinga Lancers for backing him, Liam said the team’s focus this season is clear — reaching the Final Four and pushing for the title. After conceding the most goals last season, the franchise has put renewed emphasis on defensive structure, with the coaching staff stressing that “defence wins championships”.

Liam highlighted the presence of world-class defenders and said midfielders and forwards must provide better support without the ball. He also called playing alongside Olympic gold medallists a “dream come true” and said the blend of European structure and Australian intensity could be key in a fast-paced league like the HIL.
