Описание:
The cute Banded Pipefish (Dunckerocampus dactyliophorus) belongs to the same family (Syngnathidae) as seahorses.
They have a straight, elongated body and reach a maximum length of 19 cm. The flattened caudal fin tip has a bright red dot in the centre with a white margin around it. Some of them may have prehensile tails like seahorses.
Similar to their seahorse cousins, the male banded pipefish has a specialised brood pouch. The female deposits her eggs into the male's pouch, where they develop. The male later gives birth. After birth, the kids are on their own, without parental care.
