Dramatic footage from Belfast shows police deploying water cannons as unrest spread across parts of Northern Ireland following a knife attack that sparked anti-immigration protests.



Vehicles were set on fire, including public and emergency-service vehicles, while riot police responded to attacks involving projectiles, arson and street disorder. Authorities increased police deployments as violence spread through several neighborhoods. Political leaders, including UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, condemned the violence and called for calm. The family of the stabbing victim also urged people not to use the incident to fuel further unrest.



The violence followed the charging of a Sudanese man with attempted murder after a serious knife attack that left the victim with life-changing injuries. Police have said there is currently no evidence that the attack was terrorism-related and continue to investigate the circumstances.
