PART ONE!
(KUTV) A high school teen accidentally shot in the neck and paralyzed plans to walk on his own two feet across the stage at graduation to receive his diploma.
Chance Sackett threw down his crutches taking baby steps to train ruthlessly for his graduation ceremony.
"It's a lot of concentration," Sackett said. "It's not painful it's just that my muscles are working against me at the same time while I'm trying to do it."
Sackett was accidentally shot in the neck by his father on Feb. 18, 2012 while the two were cleaning guns together.
"It entered right in the back of my neck and then out of my left shoulder," Sackett said.
Sackett was told he was paralyzed from the neck down and would never walk again.
After months and months of hard work and therapy, Sackett was able to regain strength and control over his body.
Sackett navigates the long halls across campus at Copper Hills High School and has even trained his legs and feet again in order to be able to drive a car.
The walk for graduation however will be a bit more challenging.
Sackett plans to walk alone without the use of his crutches across 50 or so feet on stage at the Energy Solutions Arena for graduation on Thursday, June 5.
