Generative AI For Good, Not Writing Code. Creating A Claude Code Development Learning Assistant

Описание: Generative AI is seen as a threat to developers, but any threat is an opportunity if you choose to leverage it correctly.

So in this example we threw together some MCP tooling to turn Claude Code in to an assistive teacher for a new developer.

So we created tooling that was able to analyse a code base and create a syllabus of all the technologies and construct required for a developer to be able to work on it.

So in this case we use an API have used before that has a wide smattering of constructs and got generative AI to create a 20 day syllabus to go from zero to hero.

We go in to Claude Code and ask it to go in to teacher mode.

It loads the syllabus, switches to assist rather than do and we can start talking to Claude about the syllabus.

It can understand our level of understanding and then we can cherry pick a programme to suit our knowledge.

As it goes along as we ask questions it generates md files as we go along we can refer back to.

We ask it to explain things in real time.

We can interrupt it.

Change tact to suit us.

I have shown in the past where I wrote CLI's 15 months or so ago we can take control of Visual Studio using interop, so we can add extra limbs so rather than sitting in a console, as soon as we want to look at code it is better as a human for us to do that in the IDE. So at a later date we can walk through that.

We ask it some questions. We then get it to set us an exercise to implement a new endpoint. It generates us a nice exercise file for us to work through. We can refer to it as has guidance, but does not do it for us.

Once we have made the changes, Claude can see them so it can review what we have done and make suggestions where we may have made mistakes, we can then go interactive on things we did not understand.

It is teaching the fundamentals based on the code we are working on. Google search cannot do that, you may have different internal implementations for example.
