“Ordering a Drink” in Ningbo Dialect

Описание: For this episode, we actually made a deal with a local bar to have our Ningbo dialect lesson at their place. It worked out well, and the bartender made us a bunch of drinks to taste. A funny aside to this segment, this episode almost didn’t happen, as my primary camera guy decided to simply do a no call no show, and instead I had to quickly train my friend last minute to do all the recording when I was in front of the camera.

Chinese language is vast and varied. Although you may have heard Chinese spoken in the two major dialects Cantonese or Mandarin, there are actually 100’s of dialects of Chinese spoken for specific areas. Many of these are totally unintelligible if you are not from that specific area, and have little relationship to Mandarin or Cantonese.

This is a short series of clips I pulled from my 2013 Ningbo Focus Show episodes that taught Ningbo dialect of Chinese language. In each of these short lessons I tried to teach some simple terms in the local language that could be used in a variety of circumstances and have fun doing it. Although Ningbo dialect is used less and less, I think that keeping it alive even a little helps to retain Ningbo culture remember the Ningbo Heritage.
