Reliance Jio IUC explained 1GB data per IUC top up of ₹10

Описание: Interconnect Usage Charge or IUC is a cost paid by one mobile telecom operator to another when its customers make outgoing mobile calls to the other operator’s customers. Hence every network operator pays IUC charges for outgoing calls and similarly receives IUC charges for incoming calls. IUC charges are fixed by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) and are currently at 6 paise per minute. In India, since day one Reliance Jio is offering free calls to all its 4G users even when calls are made on other networks. However, the other operators have high charges for voice calls. Due to these the users on other networks have developed a habit of giving missed calls to the Jio customers. Jio network receives 25 to 35 Cr missed calls daily. So when a Jio user makes a call on the other operator Jio ends up paying 6 paise/minute. Due to this situation, the net IUC cost paid by Jio is ₹13000 Cr till date.
To create regulatory predictability in 2017 TRAI decided to eliminate the IUC charges with effect from January 2020. Keeping in mind TRAI’s decision to eliminate IUC charges in future Reliance Jio kept the free voice call service for its users even with paying high IUC charges. Now that TRAI has revisited its decision and decided to extend the IUC charges further Reliance Jio can no longer subsidize other operators. Hence, Reliance Jio is compelled to pass on this regulatory charge of 6 paise/minute for all outgoing calls. There will be no change in the current tariff plans. However, starting on 10th October for all the recharges you make you will need additional IUC top-up vouchers to make calls on other network operators. With each IUC top-up, an additional talk time will be added to your account and will be deducted at the rate of 6 paise/min for every call you make on another operator. To compensate these charges Jio is offering additional data benefits of 1GB per IUC top-up of ₹10.
