Karl Popper - The Logic of Scientific Discovery
Karl Popper is one of the most important thinkers of the 20th century. This is one of his fundamental works on epistomology and scientific research. Popper criticizes the basic concepts of both classical positivism and the Vienna Circle (Logical Positivism) such as verification and induction. According to him, no matter how much we test a statement such as all swans are white, it does not mean that one day we will not encounter a black swan. While verification is based on probability, falsification is absolute. It also rejects the assumption that the progression of scientific knowledge is cumulative and direct. Nevertheless, the criterion of scientificity is the testing of a theorem to falsify it.
