Junkanoo is a street festival and a grand parade celebrating the Bahamian culture and history. 2025 Grand Bahama Senior Junkanoo Parade “The Pineyard Rush” was celebrated last month in January at the Explorer’sWay,Downtown ,Freeport,GBI. This large and popular Junkanoo celebration takes place not only in Grand Bahama Island but also across the other 16 islands of The Bahamas including the grand celebrations in Nassau. Though the exact origin of the festival is unknown, a popular belief, is that it evolved from the days of slavery. The slaves were given three days off during the Christmas season, which they used to celebrate by singing and dancing in colourful masks, travelling from house to house, often on stilts.
