The Band
The Turtles were an American band formed in 1965 in Los Angeles, California. They were known for their folk-rock and pop-rock sound, and their distinctive vocal harmonies.

In addition to "She'd Rather Be With Me" and "Happy Together," they also had other hits such as "Elenore" and "You Showed Me."

The sextet original name was the Tyrtles, an homage to the Byrds, but soon amended to the correct spelling.

As the Turtles' commercial success waned by the end of the 1960s, they became plagued with management issues, lawsuits and conflicts with their label, White Whale Records, leading the group to break up in 1970.

Founding members Howard Kaylan and Mark Volman later found long-lasting success as session musicians and reunited in 1983 under the name Flo & Eddie a comedy rock act.

Mark Volman (Flo, short for Phlorescent Leech) and Howard Kaylan (Eddie).

The Song:
written by Gary Bonner and Alan Gordon, recorded with The Wrecking Crew, and reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart; they also wrote The Turtles' hit single "Happy Together.
