A visit to the historic medieval town of Winchelsea in East Sussex

Описание: A walking tour around the historic medieval town of Winchelsea in East Sussex, in the south east of England.

We start the walk at the town sign, which displays the emblem of the Cinque Port Confederation, on German Street.

Next, we head into the Church of Saint Thomas, before seeking out the headstone of Spike Milligan.

We continue by stepping out of Saint Thomas's grounds onto Winchelsea's High Street before heading down to the medieval Strand Gate and views over the Romney Marsh.

We head back along Barrack Square, noting more of Winchelsea's 13th-century cellars, before discovering the old town well of Winchelsea.

Our route takes us back via Winchelsea Court Hall and the New Inn pub, before heading up to the main road, the A259, or Rectory Lane. Here we find John Welsey's chapel & the remains of the Blackfriars's barn.

We close our trip to Winchelsea by heading along Hiham Green towards School Hill & North Street before concluding at the Pipewell Gate
