New Georgia 1943 – The Fight for Munda | Nearly 100,000 Sorties in 19 Days | WW2

Описание: 🎖️This documentary traces the 1943 New Georgia campaign in the Central Solomons, where Admiral William “Bull” Halsey applied a hard-won strategy to seize Munda Airfield and isolate Japanese bases rather than attack each island head-on. It follows Marine Raiders and U.S. Army units from the wet, mud-choked landings at Rendova, through the costly and ultimately unsuccessful assault at Bairoko, to the grinding advance on Munda’s coconut-log fortifications and the airfield’s capture in early August. The film explains why Kolombangara—garrisoned by nearly 10,000 Japanese—was bypassed, how Vella Lavella became a forward base, and how Japanese commander Minoru Sasaki evacuated his forces under moonless nights even as nearly 100,000 enemy air sorties hammered Allied shipping. The narrative sets these operations in the broader arc from Yamamoto’s April 18 shoot-down to the Allied leap toward Bougainville, showing how New Georgia shaped the Pacific island-hopping model despite being overshadowed by Guadalcanal.
