This is one of the most beautiful songs ever (but don't I say that about all the songs I sing?), composed by the great film music composer Michel Legrand. The story of the film, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, is based on a couple separated by circumstances, reasons why, after recently sending some photos of my wedding to my ex-husband to my dear friend Joey in the USA (Doorways Into Music https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCv97..., I decided to use them for this video. Many relationships may end, due to all kinds of reasons, but often not because there wasn't enough love. In a way, that marriage was a beautiful love story, even if a very sad one, reason why I felt that these photos would go very well with the theme of this song (not that I am still waiting for the past to come back............................. because often the past is better left in the past)!
On these photos you also see my oldest daughter Andrea and her now husband Werner, and his two children, my step-grandchildren Faye and Damian, my ex-husband's friend Lynn, who was one of the only colleagues who stuck by him during his previous divorce, and his wife Anne, as well as my very dear friend, now departed, Roswitha (they were both our witnesses), and Roswitha's grandson Pierre. Roswitha was already in her later 80's back then, and so beautiful.... a truly remarkable woman I very much loved and miss!
We lived in France (Alsace), at the time, and the flowers you see on the photos were flowers I photographed in the garden of the house where we lived at the time. As always in France, you have to get married in the local Marie, and of course you also see Madame le Maire of Attenschwiller, who married us. At the end you see the blossom in the snow, a photo I took in the only property we owned together, in the South West of France, Plegassous, which I feel signifies the end of a beautiful love story, and the gates we had made for us and which we loved, but which closed for the last time, when we left for Wales, not knowing that I would never be back. I am a Leo, born in July, and Kevin's surname is Williams, and they have a Lion in the coat of arms. My heart was totally broken but, like the song says, we have to cherish our best memories, and I always will, and also, like the song says at the beginning: We have to try to be happy, or, I would add, maybe to find happiness again!
The lovely photos were taken by a couple of local photographers. I remember that her name was Berangère, but I don't remember his name anymore. The portraits were taken a couple of weeks after the wedding, as it is often done in France, after we had been on honeymoon in Egypt, in the same Castle in Basel where we held our wedding reception and where we had got engaged (we lived in the border of France and Switzerland, as my ex-husband worked in Basel).
It was amazing to be able to be sing this beautiful song accompanied by The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, directed by the great John Williams, and one of the greatest violinists on Earth, Itzhak Perlman!!!
