Transgender Transition Timeline - From Sean to Sara

It's been twelve years since I made this video. Wow. It honestly does not feel like it's been that long and yet it also feels twice as long ago than it was. I don't even go by Sara anymore! The woes of transitioning I guess.

A lot has happened in the world since 2010, transgender folx are finally getting better health care coverage, protection laws and the like are being passed (and unfortunately fought...) and just, yeah. Everything!

I even found out just before the COVID pandemic started that this little project of mine (which I honestly just made to help inspire some friends) is featured on KnowYourMeme? I'm credited as the "original" but honey, I am not the original transition slideshow on Youtube. There were several others before me that inspired me to make this.

Back when I made this in 2010, MTF was still relatively the main word to describe a transwoman, and looking back at our dead names, while still triggering, was more socially "normal" to help get past it. Obviously nowadays, we don't refer to ourselves as FTM or MTF or just put out our dead names like this. I've struggled for years coming back to this video, not knowing how to... not necessarily update it, but address it. Obviously, even 12 years later, it's still getting regular views and I'm still receiving loving words and messages from people telling me how much it's inspired them to be themselves, to come out and tell the world "F*$K YOU I'M TRANS AND YOU CAN'T STOP ME!"

For public safety, I won't update my name on here from Sara (also because it's in the video itself and I don't even think I still have the original Final Cut project anymore), but going forward I'm going to at least reword the main Title for the video to better reflect the times.

Whoever featured me on KYM, I just have to say thank you, not for me personally, but for the help you've given to others with sharing this on such a widely viewed website, in as positive of a light as you could. I will argue till the end of my life that I'm not the original, but so long as my video helps others be true to themselves, I won't ever ever ask for it to be removed from the site.

Just remember, be yourself. Thank you for 13 years of this life and here's to many more.
(Also can I just go back in time and tell my younger self to not pick XXGAMERGIRL148XX as a user name for something like this? GEEZ GIRL.)

I am glad that my life has gone the way it has. The experiences, the challenges, the connection with close friends and everything else as well.
