You are the shadow stitched beneath my skin,
the name I answer to when the wind calls ruin.
I wear you like a wound that never seals—
each gale that strips the moor bares more of you in me.
I am not held by you;
I am made of you.
I dream of dying within these stone walls,
years ground thin by weather and waiting,
still bound to purpose only because of you—
because love, once lost,
can become a duty to endure.
The hills rise beneath me
like a blind man’s scripture,
all scars and certainty.
Each ridge whispers a name
I have never buried.
I do not follow the land.
It keeps me.
Silence fans wide across the moor;
in it, I hear the heartbeat—
not mine alone,
but the land’s slow thunder
answering my own.
Heather shudders and dances
as the air draws breath,
purple and untamed,
bowing to no hand.
In its wildness I recognise myself.
There was a presence here,
woven into the path and the air,
a soul as untamed as the land itself.
Haworth learned her step,
the moor kept her voice,
and I—
I learned how love can haunt without mercy.
I walk where passion once defied reason,
where hearts chose ruin over silence.
The earth does not judge such choices.
It understands them.
I am Heathcliff.
I belong to the storm,
to the grief that sharpens rather than dulls,
to a love that refuses burial.
