Very little is known about D'Ambruis. He knew Michel Lambert and was one of his admirers. His 'Live d'airs' is dedicated to Lambert.

The preface to this book includes the following notice: 'I have finally decided to make available to the public some of those airs which have been particularly acclaimed and to accompany them with all the ornaments that may facilitate a stylish performance.'

Translation:

To charm the troubles that I endure in loving,
Nightingales, I would only
Like to hear your warbling;
Ah, how sweet your songs are,
All the other birds in this dark grove
Do not pity my sorrows as tenderly as you do.
Nightingales, you love, but the object of your flames
Satisfies your amorous desires,
And nothing is contrary to you;
I languish in love,
I adore without hope a stern beauty,
And I feel all the pains of an unhappy lover.
