Following numerous citizen complaints, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has issued stop-work notices to 158 construction sites for violating dust pollution norms. Initially, 208 builders were served warnings on February 21, but only 50 complied with the guidelines, allowing them to continue work. The remaining sites now face strict action under the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act and Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966. Areas like Lohegaon, Hadapsar, Keshav Nagar, Undri, and Pisoli have the highest number of violations, as revealed in a recent PMC survey. With over 10,000 active construction projects in Pune, concerns about unchecked pollution continue to grow.

Despite pledges to follow Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) guidelines, several builders have failed to implement dust control measures, leading to mounting pressure from civic authorities and social activists. A leading social worker has written to the MPCB, demanding stricter enforcement, fines, regular inspections, and legal action against repeat offenders.
