Our journey begins at Mogusaen, a historic Japanese garden dating back to the Edo period. The garden spans approximately 2.8 hectares and features over 400 plum trees of 50 different varieties, hosting a popular plum festival from mid-February to early March. Within the garden, visitors can find Shoren-an, an Edo-period tea house, and an observation point offering panoramic views of the verdant Tama Hills and Mount Fuji on clear days. Along the path from Mogusaen, we encounter historical monuments from the Edo period, including the Rokujizo statues and Bato Kannon shrine, before reaching the Kawasaki Kaido, a former branch of the Koshu Kaido highway. The final destination is Seiseki-Sakuragaoka Station area, famously known as the setting for the Studio Ghibli film "Whisper of the Heart." This nostalgic neighborhood features numerous locations from the movie, including the vibrant shopping street, the bridge over Oguri River, Iroha Slope, Konpira Shrine, and the iconic rotary. This walking course, beloved by many as an urban oasis, beautifully combines seasonal nature, historical sites, and memorable film locations, making it a perfect destination for both history enthusiasts and anime fans.
