October is Pink Tober—Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a global campaign aimed at raising awareness, supporting survivors, and addressing the growing impact of breast cancer, which affects millions worldwide. In Honiara, many showed their support by wearing the pink ribbon or dressing in pink to highlight the rising number of breast cancer cases.
Dr. Andrew Soma, an oncologist at the National Referral Hospital’s Cancer Unit, shared concerning statistics: breast cancer now makes up 1 in every 4 cancer cases in the country, with one cancer-related death occurring each day.
