In this video recorded by WTWH Media videographer Graham Smith at the 2019 Pack Expo in Las Vegas, linear-bearing product manager for igus North America Matt Mowry explains dry-lubrication options for precision linear axes. Plastic bearing technology supports axes driven by igus leadscrews (also featuring nuts that don’t require traditional modes of lubrication) as well as belt-driven axes for those applications requiring slightly higher speeds.
At the Pack Expo tradeshow, Matt Mowry also explained other igus items at the booth:
• igus gantry systems — available for $1,500 to $2,600 in two-axis and three-axis designs in both configured and customizable variations
• igus delta robots — capable of up to 60 picks per minute and employing lubrication-free belt-driven actuation for cost-effective precision operation … with a 5-kg payload, 360-mm workspace, and positioning accuracy to ±0.5 mm … at around $6,200 or to about $8,000 with drive controllers
• igus linear slides with carriages having removable bearing liners — which let end users swap out the contacting subcomponent in less than a minute … without removing the rail from the rest of the assembly
• igus washdown-grade drylin products that feature stainless elements in various grades … which is a good match, as the drylin contacting subcomponents won’t damage even the softest of these steels
• igus dryspin leadscrews — with specially engineered subcomponents for a leadscrew nut that lasts longer and rounded leadscrew-shaft threads to minimize vibration (among other things)
