In December of 2023, the Strasburg Rail Road fired up their iconic 2-10-0 “Decapod” #90 to haul the railroad’s annual Christmas trains through the beautiful Amish countryside. December is the last month before the engine goes down for its federally mandated 1,472 day boiler inspection in 2024. Sporting the classic Reading 6 chime, the ex. Great Western workhorse put on a spectacular display of smoke, and a rare display of speed, as it thundered through the winter fields along the “Road to Paradise”.
