Today we bounced between wiring, gauges, relays, and then—because I was losing my mind—we switched over to building the exhaust from every random pipe and muffler we could find in storage.
We started with the gauge cluster:
Running power, grounds, dimmer, and illumination
Making a real plug-and-play connector using GM-style plugs
Adding waterproof connectors
Using a cheap Amazon 12-circuit harness (and why it’s… “fine”)
Explaining the difference between $45 harnesses and $600 American Auto Wire kits
Calibrating the speedometer with the “one button witchcraft”
Then the shop ADHD kicked in, so we switched to:
Digging up 2.5" pipe, old-school MAC mufflers, and a Corvette H-pipe
Trying to route exhaust around the WATTS link (pain)
Debating whether to dump out the bed (group vote said NO)
Making hanger brackets and test fitting mufflers
Doing everything mostly eyeballed
Tacking everything together while out of argon
Finishing with a killer exhaust tone
And of course… the usual shop banter, hornets, cold drinks, and accidental comedy.
This truck build has been chaos, but it’s all coming together piece by piece.
