Edgar Degas was a French artist who is famous for his paintings, sculptures, prints, and drawings. He was especially specialized with the subject of dance, and drew more than half of his works depicting dancers. He was regarded as one of the founders of Impressionism, but he rejected the term, preferring to be called a realist. He was a very talented artist, especially in illustrating movement, as can be seen in his expressions on the subjects of dancers and racecourse.
