Описание: These are the final minutes of "The Search", the 13th episode (90th overall) of the fifth season of the 1978-91 CBS drama "Dallas".

This episode is meant as a tribute to original cast member Jim Davis, who originated the role of the Ewing family patriarch John Ross "Jock" Ewing, Sr. He died after production wrapped on the fourth season on April 26, 1981.

The actor and character's death would change the chemistry of the show forever. His death, in fact, would drive the series' plots for the next two years. This episode originally aired Friday, January 8, 1982

The Ewing family is enjoying their yearly Ewing Barbecue event when tragedy strikes. Ewing family matriarch Eleanor Southworth "Miss Ellie" Ewing (Barbara Bel Geddes) gets a distressing phone call from family friend Marvin "Punk" Anderson. Her husband, Ewing family patriarch John Ross "Jock" Ewing, Sr. (Jim Davis), had been in South America for government business. He was en route to the airport via helicopter to catch a flight back home to Dallas, when the helicopter crashed over desolate swamp. She tearfully announces to J.R. (Larry Hagman) that Jock is dead.

Alarmed, J.R. immediately catches a flight to South America, with his brothers Bobby (Patrick Duffy) and Ray (Steve Kanaly) in tow. They join the search party and begin their own. Bobby searches in a swamp, where he comes across a familiar piece of jewelry, a medallion with a lion's head: the same medallion Jock wore for years. As he is coming out of the swamp, he shows the medallion to his brothers and confirms what he just figured out for himself: Jock Ewing, their daddy, went down in the swamp. J.R. and Ray refuse to believe it, until Bobby tells them that the bottom of that like is soft, meaning he's 100 feet below.

The brothers then make the sad journey back to Dallas, where they inform Miss Ellie of Jock's demise.
