Hilden Mill dates back to 1784 when Scotsman John Barbour established a linen thread works in Lisburn. By 1823, Barbour's Mill had been moved to the Hilden site by his son William. The water powered twisting mill was built and the Linen Thread Company was founded in 1898. It became the largest mill of its kind in the world but unfortunately it closed in 2006 and has remained derelict ever since.
