Note that the arrangement of functional elements into physical chunks becomes the building blocks for the product or family of products.

Product architecture is the assignment of the functional elements of a product to the physical building blocks of the product.
One of the properties of a modular architecture is that the interactions between chunks are well-defined and are generally fundamental to the primary functions of the product.
