Shepherd life in zanskar

Описание: Zanskar Valley is eternally famous for its high snow capped mountains and surrounding landscape, featuring geographical attributes that are unique with Scenic beauty, nature and amazing weather.Most of the people here are still dependent on farming and cattle-rearing. The Zanskari people have developed complex irrigation systems to produce enough food in the limited cultivable land. They grow crops like barley, wheat, and potatoes at lower elevations. At higher elevations, livestock are the main source of livelihood . With the modernisation and needs people are moving towards modernisation on large scale and culture like farming and cattle rearing is about to extinct. There are still many village in zanskar where cattle rearing is in practice and but unfortunately there are only few villages left where people practice sheep rearing and among that our village is one of the village where sheep rearing is done on large scale.
How we do sheep rearing 👇🏻
During summer Shepherds primarily care for sheep and take them in high mountains for grazing , while yaks are left to graze on their own. They watch over their herds all day, and back home,people in zanskar valley stock dry grass on the roof of their houses to feed them in winter.
Shepherds use traditional methods to improve livestock productivity, such as rotating pastures, segregating animals by health.
