दारिद्रय असले, जीवन, संसार उद्ध्वस्त होत असले, सभोवताली अंधार असला, तरी या सर्वांवर मात करून पुन्हा वर उठण्याची, जगण्याची एक धडपड कातकरी समाजात आहे. ह्या सर्वांमध्ये जगण्याची कसली तरी एक आंतरिक ईर्षा आहे; जी बाहेर दिसत नाही पण जी जिवंत आहे. विनाश होत असतानाही विकास करण्याची, विघटन होत असतानाही संघटनाची, विस्थापन होत असतानाही सुस्थापनाची ओढ असणारी एक चिवट, रानवट ठिणगी यांच्यामध्ये आहे. ती ठिणगी आहे म्हणूनच हे लोक आत्तापर्यंत जिवंत आहेत आणि गेली अनेक वर्षे आपल्या अबोल, आदिम पद्धतीने प्रतिकूल परिस्थितीशी झगडत आले आहेत.

अजूनही वेळ गेलेली नाही. यांचा विकास शक्य आहे. तो त्यांचा तेच करू इच्छितही आहेत. संमाज म्हणून आपण फक्त त्या प्रक्रियेला हातभार लावला पाहिजे. मुख्य म्हणजे आपण आपल्या आधुनिकतेच्या हव्यासापायी त्यांना देशोधडीला लावता कामा नये. ही जी ठिणगी आहे, ती पेटवायची गरज नाही; ती त्यांच्यामध्ये आहेच. आपण फक्त ती विझू देता कामा नये.?

अशाच काही कुटुंबांना त्यांच्या जगण्याला आज मला जवळून अनुभवायचा योग आला.
जे दिसले ते टिपले आणि तसेच आपल्यासमोर मांडले आहे.

Even though there is poverty, life is being destroyed, and darkness is all around, there is a struggle in the Katkari Tribe community to overcome all this and rise above it. In all of this, there is some kind of inner jealousy to live; which is not visible from the outside but which is alive. There is a strong, wild spark within them that has a tendency to develop even in the midst of destruction, to organize even in the midst of disintegration, to establish even in the midst of displacement. That spark is why these people are alive till now and have been struggling with adverse conditions in their own primitive, primitive way for the past many years.

Time has not yet passed. Their development is possible. That is what they want to do. As a society, we should only contribute to that process. The main thing is that we should not make them flee their homeland for our desire for modernity. This spark does not need to be ignited; it is already within them. Shouldn't we just let it go out.

Today I had the opportunity to experience the lives of some such families up close.
I have recorded what I saw and presented it to you.
