How to clean and lube motorcycle chain. In the first portion of the video i explain how to properly CLEAN a motorcycle chain then towards the end I explain how to lube a motorcycle chain. I am using Kerosene to clean my chain which seems to be on the cheaper side and works very well and saves a lot of time. Keep in mind there are all sorts of different chain cleaners to choose from. Whichever Chain Cleaner you decide to use just make sure it is safe on the chain you are going to be cleaning in this video I am cleaning a sealed motorcycle chain which contains rubber so just make sure it is safe to use on the chain you are going to be cleaning. The kerosene melts all the gunk right off of the chain making it look brand new again and for the price and the amount you get it makes it a really good option should last you years. After applying the cleaner on the motorcycle chain let the cleaner sit on the chain for about 5-10 minutes and allow the cleaner to do its job..Then after wipe everything down(chain & sprockets) then rinse the cleaner off of the chain with some water then after you are done rinsing the chain use a rag to get the chain DRY..make sure the chain is really dry let it sit and air dry if necessary before applying the chain lube so the lube works properly because chain lube and water don't mix...the water eats away at the lube and that's not what we want. Now you are ready to lube the chain. I am using WD40 specialist Gel Lube which is safe on rubber. There are better options for chain lube that you can apply to your motorcycle chain I had to improvise in this video because of the holidays and the motorcycle shop being closed but just make sure every product you use is safe on the motorcycle chain you are maintaining. Try not to go crazy with the chain lube because it can be VERY MESSY and make sure you have your rear tire protected so the chain lube doesn’t go on the that can be dangerous for obvious reasons.
