In Nepal, with the promulgation of the new constitution on the 20th of September, 2015, a number of reforms had to be made. Thus, the changes - the local, provincial and federal elections. We have made a short video to educate you about Nepal's new political structure.
Notes:
1. What is a constituency?
A constituency is an area whose voters elect a representative to a legislative body.
2. What do you mean by 'Proportional Representation".
Proportional Representation is an electoral system that seeks to create a representative body that reflects the overall distribution of public support for each political party. In Nepal's context, the number of seats won by a particular party will be based on the number of votes they garner nationally, unlike a constituency who directly elects its majority candidate.
Nepal initially had 75 districts. However, since two provinces had to share Rukum and Nawalparasi district, they have now been divided into two districts each, thus 77 districts.
