Here is part 2 of Growing Japanese maples from seed. In this video I plant my Japanese maple seeds in plastic containers in my greenhouse. They have been cold stratified and are ready to start the germination period. Hopefully in a few weeks we will see some good germination from these maple seeds.
I also sow some southern magnolia seeds that I also cold stratified. With magnolia seeds you should soak them first for about 24 hours to loosen the waxy fruit on the exterior. Then the seeds just pop right out when you squeeze them. I cold stratified them in a seed starting mix in my refrigerator for a little over a month.
