Dave DeMatteo is a Professor of Psychology & Professor of Law at Drexel University, & Director of Drexel’s JD/PhD Program in Law & Psychology. His research interests include mental health law, psychopathic personality, diversion programs, & forensic mental health assessment. He has published 100+ peer-reviewed articles, 50+ book chapters, & 12 books. He is a former President of the American Psychology-Law Society and the American Board of Forensic Psychology. He consults with city agencies, state agencies, legislators, correctional facilities, and law enforcement. He conducts forensic mental health assessments of adults and adolescents on a variety of legal issues, and he has testified as an expert witness in several state and federal courts. He recently began a 6-year term as Editor-in-Chief of Law and Human Behavior, and he is Chair of the Committee to Revise the APA Specialty Guidelines for Forensic Psychology.
Learning Objectives:
1. Describe the history & role of the Specialty Guidelines for Forensic Psychology in the practice of forensic psychology.
2. Assess key ethical & practice-related guidance provided by the Specialty Guidelines.
3. Describe gaps in the current Specialty Guidelines & how those gaps may be addressed by the revised Specialty Guidelines.
