My top 10 badass anime females (no mainstream anime!)

No mainstream anime 'cause mainstream countdowns are getting boring. I agree with lots of them, but I don't wanna repeat what others already said so many times.

MY DEFINITION OF "BADASS"
-knows how to fight
-mostly stronger than others
-fights for very personal reasons (no "for my friends" crap)
-more of a social outcast
-very rational & composed behavior
-deterrent & intimidating character traits
(note: "badass", by my defintion, does NOT necessarily mean "brutal". Killing someone in a shockingly bloody way does not automatically mean "badass" to me)
The women I picked all more or less fullfill all of those points

MY DEFINITION OF "MAINSTREAM"
To me, something is mainstream when something has managed to attract and hold an extraordinarily large number of fans, not when something is well known. You can know something without being a fan of it. I know of Nicki Minaj, yet I'm not a fan of hers. Some anime in this list were hyped when they were released (e.g. HOTD and Black Lagoon), but yet didn't manage to build up a large enough fanbase to be called mainstream.

HOW I FOUND OUT WHAT IS MAINSTREAM
Mainly through popular fanart websites. Enthusiastic fans like to express their devotion through several kinds of art. The more fanart exists for an anime, the bigger of a deal it is. I also looked at review websites, anime streaming websites and other info sites, which had some data on how the anime sold etc. Yes, I actually did some research.

WHO & WHY (SPOILERS! WATCH VIDEO FIRST!)

YOKO
Gurren Lagann's Yoko Littner is only 14 years old and knows how to wield a whole range of different firearms. She's smart, rational & athletic but also a very social person, who acts a bit naive every now and then. Still, her fighting skills are outstanding, which is why she made the list nonetheless.

RIN
Mnemosyne's Rin Asogi is a smart private detective with an assassin like fighting style, that gives her the upper hand in most of her fights. Given the fact that she's immortal, Rin doesn't really have a pain limit. It's a shame this anime is so unknown.

RE'L
Re'l Mayer is a quite cynical, dark woman, who perfectly fits into the dark atmosphere of Ergo Proxy. She's highly intelligent and has some remarkable gun fighting skills. She also seems to be quite fearless. She was a must for me to put in this list.

SAEKO
The sadistic, maniac killer hidden behind a kind and gentle mask, this is how one could sum up Saeko Busujima's character. She is usually a very kind and caring person, but give the girl a sword and watch her go mad...

MINA
First appearing in the 2nd season of Darker Than BLACK, Mina Hazuki is displayed to be a woman with fighting skills almost equal to those of the main character. Her quick, powerful fighting style combined with her high level of intelligence makes it hard even for Hei to keep up. Also, Hazuki never lets herself be influenced by emotions. She definitely deserved her place in this list.

JO
Burst Angel's main character is a tan, athletic, artificially created humanoid, who takes down criminals and monsters of all kinds using either a pair of Desert Eagles or a huge gunslinger mech called D'jango. Small thugs, master criminals, monsters, there's nothing that Jo can't take on. After all, she's not called the "Genocide Angel" for nothing.

KAN'U
Ikkitousen's Kan'u Unchou is displayed as a legendary hero in the series. In 4 seasons, she only gets defeated 3 times. All of her other opponents get crushed by her like the little flies she considers them. Her weapon, a naginata called Seiryuto, serves as a useful flyswatter if her own fists aren't enough. Her nickname, the "Goddess of War", is one that fits her just perfectly.

REVY
She's been in many countdowns already, but that's because those who know Black Lagoon can barely deny the sheer badassness of this chick. A smoking, cursing, somewhat a little crazy street thug turned pirate, who basically opens fire on anyone, who pisses her off. Do I have to say anything more?

LUCY
To anyone who knows Elfen Lied, it's almost a must that she has to be in here. Lucy is a highly intelligent, schizophrenic, psychotic, cold blooded, ruthless killing machine, who suffers from a whole bunch of childhood complexes and decided to kill off whole mankind. Is there any girl who's more badass? Well, in my personal opinion: yes, there is...

ALPHARD
She's the leader of a terrorist organization called "The Snakes", who use a deadly virus to threaten the whole world. Alphard, once trained to be the perfect soldier, is intelligent, amazingly athletic, perfect at using guns and can be extremely intimidating even without using her fighting skills. What makes her even more badass is the fact that she doesn't suffer from insanity or any kind of complexes. Alphard is consciously aware of the fact that she's a terrorist & a felon. She knows that she's evil and she enjoys it.
