It also attracts many other beneficial insects which in turn will give greater advantage controlling harmful pests for garden like aphids, mealy bugs etc.

The hardy plants tolerate sun, heat, drought, and nearly any well-drained soil. Marigolds are easy to grow from transplants, or we can start seeds indoors or directly in our garden.

They don’t need anything besides a good soaking of water once a week

They prefer bright & sunny areas with moderately fertile soill. They can withstand full sun exposure with impressive grace and only begin to show signs of stress when the weather is relentlessly hot, be it humid or dry.

The tallest are African marigolds (T. erecta) which grow in shades of creamy white, yellow and orange, reaching, with a wide spreading habit.

French marigolds (T. patula), are the most compact variety, most often used in front of the border or containers.

The Signet marigolds, (T. tenuifolia) are also good for rock gardens and edging plants, with unusual single blossoms that are prized for garnishing dishes.

6-inch (15 cm.) French marigolds to 3-foot (1 m.) African marigolds that show up best in the back of the flower bed.

Seeds are are dark on one end and light on the other.

Take each bloom, and pull the seeds away from the base. Then, discard the base. Separate the seeds, and spread them out on your paper towel.

Allow the marigold seeds to air dry uncovered on the paper towel for about a week. This will preserve them, so they don't mold or rot in storage.
