Thirunavaya - Thavanur - Brahma Temple

The Thirunavaya Temple is one of the very few existing temple's dedicated to the Hindu creator Lord Brahma in India and remains the most prominent amongst them in the south of India. Similarly famed in the North India is the Jagadpita Brahma Temple situated in Pushkar , the state of Rajasthan , along the banks of the Pushkar lake.

An ancient temple town, Thirunavaya was built along the banks of the Bharathapuzha River. The river has been described by Bed Vyasa in his descriptive list of rivers in South India in Srimad Bhagavatam in the 10th Chapter , 39 th Sloka. The Bharathapuzha ( also known as the Nila) is the 2nd longest river in Kerala.

Thirunavaya represents a convergence of the Trimurtis: Brahma, Vishnu ,Shiva.There are three temple's here , dedicated to the worship of those divine personalities, there for the place is considered to be equivalent to Varanasi. The Navamukunda Vishnu temple is on the right ( northern) bank of the Bharathapuzha, while the Brahma and Shiva temples are on the left (southern) bank , in Thavanur village.
Lord Brahma is said to have performed yajnas on the banks of Pushkar ( Rajasthan) , Haridwar, Kasi Prayag( Allahabad) where the confluence of three rivers Ganga Yamuna sSaraswati ,& on the banks of Phalguni river in Gaya. Parashurama wanted Brahma to Perform the yajna in the land of Kerala, which is Parashurama kshetram ,( The Land of Parashurama reclaimed from sea by him) for the welfare of people of Kerala.This temple was constructed about 5000 years back.Though it had undergone periodical renovations , the last and major renovation with the reconstruction of Sanctorum was done by the legendary Perumthachan under the direction of Vettathu raja about 1300 years back.

Brahma the Lord of creator is also the decider of one's fate. To ensure we have a good destiny it is also important to seek the blessing of Brahma along with other upasanas.

The thirunavaya VedaPadaahala near the Shiva temple famous for teaching Rig Veda. Padashala is centuries old .

ജലത്തിൽ അനന്തശയനായി മഹാവിഷ്ണു, മഹാദേവൻ , ലക്ഷ്മി, പാർവതി, സരസ്വതിമാരെയും വൈഷ്ണവ ശൈവമായ എല്ലാ പ്രതിഷ്ഠകളും ദേവഗണങ്ങളും, ഭൂതഗണങ്ങളും, പഞ്ചഭൂതങ്ങളും, നവഗ്രഹങ്ങളും, നാഗങ്ങളും, സപ്ത മാതൃക്കളും, തിഥി, ഋതുക്കൾ, പഞ്ചേന്ദ്രിയങ്ങൾ എന്നിവരെ തുരുത്തു പോലെ കെട്ടിയുയർത്തി , മഹാവിഷ്ണുവിൻ്റെ നാഭിയിൽ നിന്നും വരുന്ന താമരപ്പൂവിൽ നാല് മുഖത്തോട് കൂടി കിഴക്കോട്ട് ദർശനമായി ബ്രഹ്മദേവ വിഗ്രഹം പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.
