This activity helps ASD kids find calm and focus 🧠🌿
I took William fly fishing for the first time this week and watched his whole body slow down. Casting, line control and reading the water built focus, patience and sensory regulation right there by the river. We kept it simple and practical and he left more confident than he arrived.
This is why I love nature based support. It gives kids real skills they can feel. It also gives parents hope they can see.
After a bit of concentration and effort we the relaxed and played at the beach! One of his favourite activities to do with me. So the compromise of trying something new and getting to do something he's familiar and comfortable with was a good combination for our 4 hour session together.
