The Gang Awareness and Prevention Project “māmawikamātotān - working together for our communities” was developed by the Onion Lake RCMP in consultation with Onion Lake Cree Nation and with funding from the Government of Saskatchewan's Rural Crime Innovation Fund. The project, which consists of a series of informative videos and print materials, was recently released to inform the public about what’s being done to address gang activity and methamphetamine addiction in Saskatchewan.
“I had to work on myself. I’m not saying it’s going to be easy. It’s going to be one of the hardest battles you're going to endure in life because it’s an ongoing process. If I wake up tomorrow and have a bad day, it’s a bad day, it’s not a bad life.”
People formerly involved with gangs and drugs share what their experiences were like, how they got there and what they did to leave that lifestyle behind.
