Employers in New York State are required to carry New York State Short Term Disability coverage when they have any employees.
This coverage needs to go hand in hand with your NYS Worker's Compensation policy and is mandatory when you have employees on payroll.
This coverage pays employees who get sick or injured outside of work/job duties and miss an extended period of time.
In order for an employee to collect disability they will need to have worked for that employer for at least 4 weeks.
They need to be out over 7 days before it kicks in with a max pay out of 26 weeks at $170 a week.
There are options where employers can purchase etc coverage benefits.
