In this video I'm gonna show some tips and build with Valir.
In the current meta he is played as a support mage because of his ability to push enemies away from the carry.
He can give protection with his stun and knock-back skills.
He can do all those things and still deal good damage.
That's what I like about Valir.
He acts like a support but sometimes he can out damage his carry.

Anyway let's start with the build.

I use custom mage emblem with the talent Impure Rage.
I like Impure Rage because most of the time, you will be hitting tanks.
The damage of Impure Rage is good against high HP enemies and it also has a short cooldown.
I prefer custom mage over support emblem because of the damage difference.
I think I can still perform my support duties even though I'm using custom mage.

I start with a wooden mask so that my carry gets all the gold.
Remember you'll be playing the "support" role which means roaming item is a must buy.
Also, Valir's farming capability is pretty bad, so it's just right for him to get a roam item.
I tried making him a mid-laner mage but his farming capability is just so slow.
By playing the support role, his poor farming will be compensated by the roam item.


Next item is Demon Shoes for his mana regeneration.
If you are using support emblem, you can use a different shoe because support emblem already gives mana regeneration.

Next is Glowing Wand for that extended burn effect.
Normally, Glowing Wand's burn effect will occur three times but because of Valir's passive skill, Glowing Wand's burn effect can extend up to 7 times.

Next item is Ice Queen Wand for the slow effect.
You need this item because of your 1st skill.
Each time his first skill hits an enemy hero, it will get a free charge.
By slowing the enemies with Ice Queen Wand, it will be a lot easier to hit them.

Next item is Necklace of Durance.
You can rush this as your first damage item if you need to counter an enemy that relies on heal or shield.
It's a pretty good item because Life Drain can now affect all kinds of heal.

The last two items are gonna be defensive items of your choice.
Be sure to use items that can counter the damage from the enemy's carry.
If you are not sure, just go with these two.
