I installed an ATOTO F7 10" floating-screen headunit in my 9th Gen Impala back in 2021. The biggest pet peeve I had with it was the thing would crash and reboot (sometimes once a week, other times thrice in one day!) It's long past the time that I upgrade.
Introducing the ATOTO S8 Premium! This model does not have the floating screen, but instead tucks the large 10" screen tight to the dash. And unlike the old F7, this one runs Android 10. The screen has a much higher resolution, is very responsive, and most importantly IT NEVER CRASHES!! You can tether your wi-fi hotspot to it and run pretty much any Android app if you so choose. Wireless AA and ACP is standard, and very responsive. Many accessories can be added to this radio, including a Dash Camera, TPMS sensors, an OBD II dongle, and a steering wheel-mounted remote control. I could ramble on endlessly extoling its virtues, but will save that for another video.
I scrapped the included microphone and purchased a "professional" lapel mic to hopefully improve sound quality on phone calls. I found out after the fact that I needed to fab up a converter to get it to work with the ATOTO.
The other big upgrade is to the backup-camera. This headunit is compatible with ATOTO's "simulated birds-eye view" camera. By using only 1 camera (instead of 4) it can approximate what a birds-eye view would look like by building up an image as you drive in reverse!
If you're already part of ATOTO's universe, this HU and Reverse Camera are plug-and-play! I verified through both HUs' installation manuals that every single wire and pinout are identical! The power and AV plugs are identical between the old and new cameras, so you can leave the cable and the connections to the backup light and radio harness in place.
The final upgrade is a wireless charging pad and a new dual-USB port in the center console. I repurposed the power port that resides inside the armrest to stealthily power the wireless charging pad and the USB C port that resides inside the armrest (the USB A runs to the radio for wired AA/ACP.)
To properly install and get this (or any aftermarket radio) to work in a 9th Gen Impala (or any GM vehicle with the LAN29 "Black Tie" radio) you will need to purchase a couple of accessories.
First is a dash kit to fit the radio in the dash:
