The year 2026 marks the twenty-sixth occasion of the Mary Frances Early Lecture Series and the 64th anniversary of Mary Frances Early’s 1962 graduation as the first African American to earn a graduate degree from UGA.
This year's speaker, Dr. Adrienne Madison, delivered the address, "A Legacy in Bloom: Rooted, Resilient, and Reaching."
Each year, speakers are invited to deliver a lecture that honors Ms. Early’s quiet determination and dignity in her work to ensure that the state’s flagship university became an institution of higher learning for all the people of Georgia.
The Mary Frances Early Lecture, also designated as a UGA Signature Lecture, is sponsored by the Graduate School, Graduate and Professional Scholars (GAPS), the Mary Frances Early College of Education, the Office of Academic and Community Engagement, and the Office of the President. It is coordinated by the Office of the Provost.
