French A1 verbs are mainly classified by infinitive endings and usage. Mastering these helps in conjugation, sentence formation, and exams.

1️⃣ Regular -ER verbs (MOST IMPORTANT)

Ending: -er
Examples:
parler (to speak), aimer (to like), jouer (to play), regarder (to watch)

Grammar rule:

Remove -er, add endings:

je -e

tu -es

il/elle -e

nous -ons

vous -ez

ils/elles -ent


✔️ J’aime le français.

Common mistakes:

❌ Je aime → missing apostrophe
❌ Nous aime → should be aimons

2️⃣ Regular -IR verbs (Type 1)

Ending: -ir → -issons in nous
Examples:
finir (to finish), choisir (to choose)

Grammar rule:

Add -is, -is, -it, -issons, -issez, -issent

✔️ Nous finissons tôt.

Common mistakes:

❌ Nous finons
❌ Ils finis

3️⃣ Regular -RE verbs

Grammar rule:

Used for: identity, profession adjectives

Common mistakes:

❌ Je suis peur ❌ → J’ai peur

5️⃣ Avoir (to have) – Irregular

j’ai, tu as, il a, nous avons, vous avez, ils ont

Grammar rule:

Used for: possession, age, pain / feelings

✔️ J’ai 20 ans.
✔️ J’ai mal à la tête.

Common mistakes:

❌ Je suis 20 ans
❌ Je suis mal à la tête

6️⃣ Reflexive verbs (se + verb)

Examples:
se laver (to wash oneself), se lever (to get up)

Grammar rule:

Reflexive pronouns:
me, te, se, nous, vous, se

✔️ Je me lave.

Common mistakes:

❌ Je lave
❌ Je lave me

7️⃣ Modal / Common Irregular Verbs (A1)

Verb Meaning
aller to go
faire to do / make
venir to come
pouvoir can / may
vouloir want
devoir must

Grammar rule:

Often followed by infinitive

❌ Je peux à aller

Grammar rule:

ne + verb + pas
