A while back I made a video about a 2009 study by Glenn E. Meyer, Ph.D., Trinity University, showing that jurors were more likely to convict defendants who used AR-15s compared to Ruger Mini-14s in identical self-defense scenarios. That video sparked a lot of discussion—and some pushback.
This video is my analysis of three common criticisms of the 2009 Meyer study. I go over the study in more detail, explain the numbers (65% guilty verdicts and 7–9 year sentences for AR-15 users vs. 45% guilty verdicts and 2–2.5 years for Mini-14 users), and address common objections. I also talk about what the study can and can’t prove, and why it’s still worth knowing if you own or carry firearms for self-defense.
