Srinagar INDIA - Houseboats & KASHMIRI FOOD 2019

Описание: WE VISITED SRINAGAR, KASHMIR IN LATE JUNE / EARLY JULY 2019

I know, currently Srinagar is off-limits to tourists due to the revoking Article 370, but this is a video of the wonderful time we had there. The people were extremely friendly and it is an incredibly beautiful place. Our thoughts go out to all those affected by the Conflict.

We arrived in Srinagar at about 1am in a shared taxi from Leh. This came as a bit of surprise to us as we thought we would have arrived later so we hadn't planned any overnight accommodation. We were extremely lucky that Rasheed, a guy in the shared taxi, offered a bed at his family's house. It was such a kind offer and we had to accept. His family were so friendly and welcoming, allowing us to stay, giving us breakfast and even cooking us an amazing Wazwan lunch. Rasheed then offered to take us around the local mosques and sights in the Old City. It was amazing to talk to him about the local traditions and for us to learn more about Islam. Then in another act of kindness, Rasheed and his brother drove us to Dal Lake to find a houseboat to stay in. We found a small family owned Houseboat called the New Kings Marina, which is in a beautiful quiet part of the lake. We were paying 600 Rs (£6.60) a night but the best thing about New Kings Marina (apart from our lovely host, Kalim) is the fact we were allowed to use his Shikara for free! Normally you have to pay hourly for the Shikara but we were able to row to the floating market and around the backwaters as much as we liked!

Srinagar is the last place on our trip, we took a cheap domestic flight from here to Delhi and back to the UK. This was an amazing place to finish. When the situation in Kashmir is resolved I would highly recommend Srinagar to anyone.
