Florida’s new "super speeder" law is putting high-speed drivers behind bars — not just handing out tickets. Effective July 1st, anyone caught driving more than 50 mph over the speed limit or over 100 mph anywhere in the state can be arrested, fined up to $500, and face up to 30 days in jail.
News Channel 8’s Jeff Patterson reports from Tampa, showing real Florida Highway Patrol dash cam footage of dangerous chases — including one driver clocked at 111 mph on the Bayside Bridge.
Officials say the goal is simple: save lives by slowing drivers down. Repeat offenders could face up to 90 days in jail and $1,000 in fines.
With faster cars and riskier behavior on the roads, law enforcement is taking aggressive action to curb deadly speeding.
