In the early 1900s, diamonds were discovered in the sands south of Luderitz. Almost overnight, a diamond rush began, drawing people from all over into the desert. Over 50 years, Kolmanskop flourished as a beacon of wealth in Namibia. But eventually the diamonds dried up, and the money dried up with them.
