In 1992, a massive Caterpillar 375 excavator owned by Frank Donnelly’s construction company sinks deep into a hidden swamp during a highway project in eastern Iowa. For three days, bulldozers, cranes, and recovery trucks fail to pull the machine free, costing the company thousands of dollars each day. Just as the crew begins to lose hope, a 73-year-old farmer named Walter Brennan arrives and claims he can pull it out using his 1912 steam traction engine. Despite the engineers’ skepticism, the old machine slowly and powerfully drags the excavator from the mud, proving that sometimes old technology and experience can outperform modern machines.
