Domine, ne in furore tuo arguas me, neque in ira tua corripias me: O Lord, rebuke me not in your indignation, nor chastise me in your wrath.
For when anguish crushes the body and friends and loved ones keep their distance, Psalm 38 is the voice of the utterly forsaken and abandoned. Known as one of the seven penitential psalms, it captures the experience suffering under divine judgment while abandoned by all—wounds festering, strength failing, and not a soul drawing near. This is the prayer of the lonely soul, the cry of one who knows the dual torment of physical agony and social isolation. The Gregorian Chant and cinematography aptly reflect the desolation of the text, offering companionship to those who suffer alone.
About the Text: The text is presented in the original Latin Vulgate with English subtitles adapted from the Hebrew Masoretic text to preserve semantic precision and the poetic rhythm of the chant.
